Since the founding of The University of Alabama Tuscaloosa Family Medicine Residency Program by the College of Community Health Sciences more than four decades ago, more than 500 physicians have received specialty training through our three-year program. In Alabama, one of every seven practicing family medicine physicians is a graduate of our residency; 85 percent of our graduates practice in the Southeast. Today, we continue to address the primary care physician workforce needs, not only in Alabama and, the region but also in the nation. Studies show that more primary care is associated with better access to health care, better population health, and lower costs.
